Shoppers Drug Mart responds to customer concerns with removal of select products containing bisphenol A from shelves

TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - Shoppers Drug Mart announced today that it will
remove select products containing bisphenol A (BPA) from its shelves in
response to concerns regarding the safety of the ingredient. Shoppers Drug
Mart/Pharmaprix stores across the country will work today to remove plastic
baby bottles, drinking cups, bottle liners and reusable beverage containers
that are known to contain BPA from store shelves.
"Shoppers Drug Mart's top priority is the health and safety of our
patients and customers and we take extraordinary care to ensure that the
products we sell meet or exceed prescribed quality and safety standards," said
Joe Magnacca, Executive Vice-President, Merchandising and Category Management.
"In anticipation of the announcement expected by Health Canada, we are taking
proactive measures to remove potentially hazardous products from our shelves
until further clarification from Health Canada is provided."
Customers seeking BPA-free alternatives can choose from a wide array of
products including BPA-free Life Brand Disposable Bottle Liners, Born Free
Glass Baby Bottles and Playtex Disposable Bottle Liners available at stores
across Canada.
